WITH the aim to raise awareness on the health benefits of exercise, the Rotary Club of Nadi, in partnership with the Australian High Commission is organising a health walk and fun run in Nadi tomorrow.
The exercise activity is scheduled to begin at 7am from the RB Patel Jet Point shopping centre in Martintar.
Event organiser Doctor Ram Raju said he was hoping to draw as many as 600 people to participate.
He said the health walk and fun run would provide a platform to educate the public on the health benefits of exercise and demonstrate the correct pace and type of walk that delivered a good healthy exercise workout.
"The Fiji Cancer Society will also be present to raise awareness on various types of cancer, signs and symptoms and early detection of the disease," he said.
"We are also going to conduct several health checks, namely blood pressure, body mass index, waist to hip ratio, blood sugar and cholesterol tests by our partner, Action for Children and the Aged (ACATA) Trust Fiji."
Dr Raju said ACATA, along with donor agency the Vodafone ATH Foundation and stakeholders aimed to raise awareness on non-communicable diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease by screening and encouraging individuals to incorporate small changes in their lifestyle that would make a big difference in their general health and wellbeing.
