THE Fiji under-21 netball team will need to sharpen its attacks and communication if they want to beat Singapore in the second match tonight.
That was the view of head coach Moape Vu after his side lost 36-48 at the National Gymnasium last night.
Vu is optimistic of a win today, saying they will use a new set of players and that they will definitely beat Singapore in the second match.
"There will be a totally new team tomorrow (today) which will be a much better team and they will definitely beat Singapore.
"They should come out with a win," he confidently said.
Fiji's mid-court combination struggled to penetrate the strong wall of the visitors' defence.
Fiji's turnover possessions were wasted as the mid-court could not connect their passes to the shooters.
"We need to work on our mid-court, a lot of conflict among with the players on how they should attack and I believe our communication inside the court is where we should work on," Vu said.
"We tend to go backwards at times because there were no punching forward from the girls.
"And also Singapore's defence was very good that my girls found it hard to get the ball to our shooters," he said.
Singapore coach Kate Carpenter said Fiji had a promising young team.
She said the national U21 side would be a team to watch out for in future if they continue to play competitive games throughout this year prior to the 2013 World Youth Netball Championship in Scotland.
She was pleased with the performance of her players, and also mentioned that she would field a new set of 12 today.
"I think we played better this time but this is the U21 team. Fiji was a bit slow and we can see the difference from playing the national team and this U21 side.
"I believe they are still developing and learning, but they will be better next year if they continue to play competitive games like this," Carpenter said.
Meanwhile New Zealand-based Adi Kula Tabete and Leba Korovou played last night after arriving early yesterday morning.
Tabete was instrumental at goal attack while Korovou was also given game time at goal shooter.
Vu said Tabete played her first game with the U21 side.
