BODYLIFE Gym has taken the initiative to raise fund for Fiji's female triathlete Nau Dakuliga who will be competing at the ITU World Triathlon Championship in Auckland, New Zealand in October.
Dakuliga, a member of the Nadi-based fitness gym has represented Fiji at several international championships including last year's Pacific Games in New Caledonia where she finished in the top 10.
While facing difficulties in finding sponsors for the world championship, Dakuliga is happy that BodyLife gym has jumped on board to steer her fundraising wheel.
Bodylife gym's owner and fitness instructor Tuidraki Valentine said Nau was a dedicated athlete who received less support but had represented Fiji on many international championships.
"Nau is Fiji's lone female triathlete at the moment and we want to help her fundraise for her tour. She is not receiving enough support so we decided to assist her," she said.
Dakuliga uses the gym for free as part of the support. Valentine said they wanted to organise a fun triathlon event at the end of the month.
She said the event would help attract the interest of the public in trying out the sport.
"We are planning to organise a small fundraising which will be in the form of a fun triathlon event where volunteers will take part by paying their fees.
"We understand that triathlon is not a major sport in Fiji so by organising this event it will not only help Nau but at the same time boost the minor sport here in the west," she said.
Registration will start at 6am for teams and individuals with a fee of $20 and $10 respectively. Dakuliga urged the public to rally behind her by taking part at the event on July 28.
