NAMOLI Green, the vacant area beside the Lautoka bus stand will be turned into a leisure garden with the proposed $100,000 upgrade to be conducted once a contractor has been identified.
Lautoka City Council chief executive officer Jone Nakauvadra revealed the planned upgrade at the second quarter Local Government Consultative Forum held in Ba recently.
"We are proposing to construct four kiosks, footpaths, benches and gardens and erect streetlights in the area.
"The park is being upgraded to enhance its beauty, to provide residents and visitors to Lautoka with a comfortable place to relax while enjoying the surrounds and also to generate revenue for the council."
In other beautification works conducted by the LCC, 2211 potted plants from the Lautoka Botanical Garden nursery have been used to decorate the Drasa Avenue roundabout and road islands within the central business district.
According to Mr Nakauvadra, landscaping works along the Marine Drive foreshore is near completion.
"This includes rectification of flower beds and putting benches and seats."
