STAKEHOLDERS in the building sector need to play a more proactive role in leveraging the ills and economic constraints of the community.

Minister for Works Transport and Public Utilities Colonel Timoci Natuva made the comment at the recent commissioning of the bridge at Valele in Ba.

The $330,000 bridge was financed by construction company A Jan Group of Companies.

In a statement, Col. Natuva said it was imperative for any stakeholder in any area of specialty to maintain its strong connection to the community by physically reaching out to the underprivileged by implementing what they do best.

He also stressed the importance of corporate and private entity playing a benevolent role in the absence of government as it helped bridge the social, economical and financial viability of the local community.

The bridge is expected to serve Valele cane farmers and help reduce costs of transporting cane to the sugar mill, easy access to certain areas by bee farmers and a number of logging companies carting their timber and logs to the company's sawmill.
