THE "Red Zone" road safety operation in the Western Division has seen more drivers punished and additional vehicles impounded by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and police by the end of last week for breaking simple road rules.
Statistics released by the LTA showed that police issued 113 traffic infringement notices (TIN) last week, bringing to 545 the notices issued since the commencement of the operation three weeks ago.
The report also shows that 166 vehicles were issued defect orders taking the total number of infringements under this category to 768.
Five more vehicles were impounded for expired registration compared to the 22 already impounded over the past three weeks.
LTA chief executive Naisa Tuinaceva said despite the latest bookings, a positive outcome had been witnessed in the west during the past three weeks of operation.
Mr Tuinaceva said the operation had seen a reduction in road accidents and could be extended.
