Bench officials

FIVE Fiji bench officials will get Oceania accreditation after the completion of the 2012 LICI Pacific Netball Series (PNS) this afternoon.

Netball Fiji ran a week-long workshop on bench officials, which was attended by 17 locals and six regional participants.

Netball Fiji vice-president and technical director Alini Sovu said hosting the PNS had enabled them to secure this workshop.

ONA meeting

THE Oceania Netball Association Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held yesterday at the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) house in Suva.

The day-long meeting was attended by member countries of the regional body.

Issues discussed during the AGM include the development of netball in the region and the use of funding from AusAid and the Oceania body.

Kiwi umpire

NEW Zealand umpire David Palamo conducted the Umpire Development Workshop at Vodafone Arena yesterday.

The day-long workshop was attended by several local umpires alongside some regional ones as well.

Palamo, who is one of the umpires at the PNS, is an International Federation of Netball Association (IFNA) badge holder.

Transport

LOCAL bus company, Dee Cees, has been doing a fantastic job transporting the teams to and from the Vodafone Arena and the hotel.

The company is responsible for internal transport and is providing brand new luxury buses for the comfort of the hardworking players and officials.

The Tier One teams are billeted at the Peninsula Hotel in Suva while the Tier Two teams are staying at the Suva Apartments.

Ball girls

BALL girls have been doing an excellent job to ensure the games ran smoothly.

The lucky 12 will definitely cherish this moment of watching their favourite players battling it out on the court.

Though the job is a challenging one, some of them hardly moved a muscle because the ball stayed on court most of the time.

Young ones

CROWD seemed to be frustrated with the lack of knowledge of young volunteers who were assigned to keep the wetness away on the court.

The umpires had to tell them and in one instance a Fiji player took the towel from the volunteer to make sure the surface was dry and secure.

Well, Fiji is hosting an international netball event after a long time so I guess it's a learning experience for all of us.

Big help

A TOTAL of 60 volunteers are helping out the organisers at the 2012 PNS. They are doing all they can to make this event a success.

FIJI Water, official drinks partner, have provided almost 80 cartons of the artesian water for these volunteers to quench their thirst in between their work to keep them going.
