THE only runners club in Fiji, Jet Runners has organised a fun run to mark International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The idea for the five kilometre run was formed by former long distance runners of Fiji to show their support to the Blue Ribbon Campaign.
Club president and race director Abinesh Kumar said the motive of the race was to encourage the people of Nadi into a running and healthy lifestyle.
He said the race which had free entry had been divided into various categories.
"We have a primary school male and female (classes 1 to 8), secondary school male and female, open male and female and veteran categories," Kumar said.
"All finishers qualify for lucky dip prizes such as a weekend for two at Sonaisali Island Resort (breakfast included), Tatas Restaurant meal vouchers, Mamas Pizza Meal Vouchers, Skyway Restaurant meal vouchers, and Medirite Pharmacy Nadi gift Packs," he said.
The Officer in Charge Nadi Police Station is the Chief Guest and the Police Dogs Unit will be organising a show.
He said police officers would be organising a roadshow during the run.
"Also, personnel from the National Substance Abuse Advisory Council will speak to the participants and distribute pamphlets."
Kumar said 300 participants had already registered and about 500 people were expected to participate in this event.
"Some well known participants include current and former distance runners namely, Abinesh Kumar, Parshotam Lal, Bimlesh Kumar, Sanjay Kumar, Avikash Lal, the Dickinson sisters and Ravnil Kumar," Kumar said.
Ravnil won the open male individual event at Olympic Day Run in Suva recently while the female event was won by Alisha Dickison.
Both runners including second placed male in the Suva event, Sanjay are competing in this race.
The Fun Run will be held at Korovuto College in Nadi.
Entry is free and registration is open till 7.30am on Saturday.
