A MAN who chased his sister around her house with a cane knife escaped imprisonment after he was given a suspended sentence by Magistrate Janaka Bandara earlier in the week.
The Suva Magistrates Court heard Saula Nawalu arrived home drunk and began playing with his sister's seven-year-old son.
His sister told Nawalu to leave her son alone but he continued to play with the child.
The complainant continued to ask Nawalu to stop playing with her son and he eventually stood up and chased her around the house with a cane knife.
He disposed off the cane knife after he could not catch her and when she returned to find him still playing with her son, he began verbally abusing her.
Nawalu, who faced one count of criminal intimidation and one of indecently annoying a person, received a sentence of six months imprisonment for each charge.
Magistrate Bandara suspended the sentence for two years.
