THE Local Government Ministry has revealed that it has received submissions from some municipal councils to increase service fees and, in some cases, to introduce new fees for services rendered.
Senior accounts officer at the Ministry for Local Government Vicky Singh said any proposal to increase fees had to be justified for consideration by the ministry.
"Apart from justification, public consultations need to be carried out in accordance with good governance procedures. Councils need to show rate payers why fee increase or new fees are needed," he said, while addressing municipal leaders at the Second Quarter Local Government Consultative Forum in Ba.
