STUDENTS of Labasa Special School turned the Labasa Fire Station into an entertainment centre as they danced with Smoke Bird during their visit yesterday.

The children laughed and clapped to the famous song Azonto, holding on to Smoke Bird and swinging his hands.

Excited about fire safety skills and drills learnt during the visit, the students crawled through the smoke house and easily found their way out.

Student Sairusi Vavula couldn't get over Smoke Bird's attire and kept following him around. "I really enjoyed my visit and learnt about the skills of fire safety and staying away from the harmful smoke."

Headteacher Mukesh Chand said the visit was an annual one.

"These are special children and they have a different way of learning. They learn through seeing and touching or to go through the exercise," he said. "That is why we have brought them here to the fire station to know what to do in a case of a fire."

Fire station officer Junior Raduva said a lot of schools come to the station for awareness purposes. Having the special school, he added, was a special occasion for them.
