AN export consignment containing 26 undeclared gold bars has been confiscated by the Customs division of the Fiji Islands Revenue and Customs Authority.

Authority chief executive officer Jitoko Tikolevu confirmed that a Suva-based company was being investigated for failing to declare the bars.

Mr Tikolevu said the gold bars weighed 2.3 kilograms.

He said the gold bars were found by a Customs officer in Suva on Monday afternoon.

He said investigations had just begun while they tried to establish the value of the bars.

"All I can say is that it involved a local company in Suva," Mr Tikolevu said.

"We will have to question everyone involved in it."

Police manager major crimes Assistant Superintendent of Police Eparama Waqa said they had yet to receive a report from Customs on the case.
