SOME members of the public who had applied for a new passport since August last year received the unique book yesterday.

More than 200 people queued up at Immigration Department in Suva as early as 6am yesterday morning excited to receive their passports.

People came from as far as Wainibuka in Tailevu and Namosi to collect their passport books.

However, it was a disappointment to some who did not check on the dates on which their passports will be issued.

Immigration director, Major Nemani Vuniwaqa said close to 1000 passports were issued.

He reiterated it was important that members of the public checked on the dates to avoid any disappointment.

He said the department had a list of dates when people could collect their passports.

People are advised to check the dailies for these lists before going down to the immigration office to collect their passport books to avoid disappointment.
