THE body of the late Adi Litia Samanunu Cakobau Talakuli will be laid to rest today at the chiefly burial grounds of Nakauniceva in Nakelo, Tailevu.
Her body was taken to the chiefly village of Nauluvatu yesterday where it will await the church service and traditional burial rites today.
Nauluvatu, the chiefly village of Nakelo, was a sea of black and white as the 13 villages of the tikina Nauluvatu mourned the passing of the Radini Nakelo.
Vakavanua Poasa Ratu said Adi Samanunu's body was brought from Suva to Nauluvatu yesterday by the chiefs and villagers of Namata.
He said this was keeping in line with the traditional duty of the vasu or maternal side of the family to escort the body.
Mr Ratu said the traditional funeral protocols started on Wednesday at Nauluvatu with the chiefs from Buretu, Bau and Cautata, to name a few, paying their respects. He said the church service for the former Fiji ambassador to Malaysia would take place at 10am today at the Ratu Apenisa Memorial Church in Nauluvatu.
Adi Samanunu was the daughter of the late Vunivalu of Bau and former Governor General, Ratu Sir George Cakobau and was married to the Tui Nakelo Ratu Manasa Talakuli.
