EIGHT inmates of the Ba Corrections Centre assisted HART residents of Ba lay the foundation of their new cafeteria.

The new cafeteria is expected to open this week.

"The task was part of our community work, something to give back to the community and we are so glad to be part of it," said Fiji Corrections Service west spokesman Semesa Uluiviti in a statement.

"From our point of view, such community work gives the public an opportunity to understand more about inmates' talents and their capabilities."

Ba HART project chairperson Sainiana Tinai said the cafeteria would allow residents to sell cakes and food .

"We can't do this project alone, but with the help from inmates it really gives us a big boost to complete this project before it's opened by the Minister for Women," said Ms Tinai.
