FOR a group of rural dwellers on Taveuni, saving lives through giving blood will always remain a part of them.
After scooping the national awards for the village category, three years in a row, Ilisapeci Cokanauto, who represented the group, said giving blood would always remain a duty.
The rural dwellers who live in Welagi and Vunidawa are known for their big hearts in always volunteering to give blood.
This is the third time we have won the village category and it all goes back to the support we have from home, Mrs Cokanauto said.
So many people who live in our area always donate blood voluntarily and it is encouraging because we know we are helping to save lives.
Mrs Cokanauto said church pastors in Vunidawa had always informed their followers about the importance of saving lives through giving blood.
Imagine having a loved one dying in hospital or at home because they dont have enough blood.
It is touching and that is why we have always believed in helping people by donating blood.
We dont even know who we donate blood to as it is all done during a blood drive.
Whats important is that we save lives through donating blood and we will continue to do that, Mrs Cokanauto.
