NUKUALOFA - Tongan graduates from the University of the South Pacific celebrated their graduation in Tonga for the first time on Saturday June 9.
The USP graduation ceremony held at the Queen Salote Hall, Nuku'alofa, was a landmark in the development of university education in Tonga.
It was the first time for a USP graduation to be held in Tonga, specifically for its Tongan graduates, a decision that was welcomed because it enabled families, friends and relatives of graduates to join the celebration.
Some 89 academic awards were given, including bachelors and master's degrees, certificates, and diplomas.
The graduation ceremony was attended by the guest of honour HSH Prince Tungi, and the Prime Minister, Lord Tu'ivakano; the Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Samiu Vaipulu and other members of Cabinet, members of parliament, and foreign diplomats.
