Man acquitted
THE Nadi Magistrates Court has acquitted a man who allegedly threatened to hurt and kill two tyre salesmen last year.
The man, a taxi service owner, is said to have made the threat after becoming upset over a car service deal he made with a vehicle maintenance company.
According to court records, the man allegedly got involved in a scuffle with one of the salesmen.
He threatened them until they agreed to fix the tyres of one of his taxis.
However, Magistrate Mohammed Ajmeer said the prosecution witnesses had contradicted each other during cross examination.
Bail refused
BAIL has been refused for a Ba man charged with one count of obtaining financial gain by deception.
Sigatoka Magistrate Chaitanya Lakshman said he agreed with police prosecutors that Aiyaz Ali would not adhere to his bail conditions because he was likely to abscond.
Magistrate Lakshman said the court was not satisfied with the sureties provided by Mr Ali who had submitted his girlfriend and a cousin as sureties.
The sureties, Magistrate Lakshman said, had no influence over Mr Ali to ensure he would appeare in court at the next hearing date.
