FMF Foods Limited said its subsidiary, Biscuit Company of (Fiji) Ltd yesterday explained why some of its contracted workers did not have jobs between the months of March to May this year.
A statement from the company said, it experienced a significant reduction in export sales to Australia during the months of March to May this year when compared with the same period last year.
The statement said the drop was mainly in export of third party private label products to Australia, which had since returned to normal levels.
Given the nature of the companys business which is strongly export orientated and order dependent, its workforce comprises a portion of fixed period contract employees that are engaged only during periods of high orders, the statement said.
It added that these workers were not engaged when the quantum of work did not warrant.
