THE Ministry of Fisheries and Forest will be presenting its proposals for a shark sanctuary to Cabinet on June 19.

Director of Fisheries Sanaila Naqali confirmed they would be presenting their proposals for the proposed legislation to turn Fiji’s 1.2million-square-kilometre Economic Exclusive Zone (EEZ) into a shark sanctuary at the next Cabinet sitting.

“We have met with all relevant stakeholders,” he said.

“My team is working on the adjustments to our submission and verifying points, finalising the draft before we present it at the next Cabinet sitting.”

Mr Naqali added further consultations with relevant stakeholders in the future might be in the pipeline.

“There could be other consultations but as yet, we have yet to decide anything. We present our proposals at the next Cabinet meeting and we will see from there where we will go.”
