CLOSE to eight women have confirmed their participation for the Buksh 2012 Classic Bodybuilding competition.
Bodybuilding Fiji vice president Patrick Fenn said it was already a good response and since entries were still open as more women might join in the next few days. He has encouraged other women out there who would like to participate in the sport to attend the event as spectators to see for themselves what the competition is about.
It is a good number of women that have confirmed their places already, Fenn said. But entries have not closed yet so more womens are expected to join and if we get more that 10 women then it will really good for the sport, he said.
But if there are women out there who would like to take part but are shy, please come and watch the competition and see for yourselves what bodybuilding is like. He said in the mens competition over 15 body builders have shown interest in participating.
We have some builders coming in from the west and we are expecting to confirm over 15 builders for the event.
Fenn revealed to Times Sport the prizes and the trophies that will be up for grabs at the event.
The event is sponsored by former Mr Fiji, Mohammed Buksh, who now resides in Canada. He (Buksh) has sent from Canada over $1000 worth of medals and trophies for the different categories in which the event will be divided into.
There will be eight categories in mens while four in the womens.
He has also asked affiliated clubs to pay their overdue fees or their builders risk being left out of the tournament. Their fees is just $20 so please pay them soon or else their builder might miss out on the competition, Fenn said.
The Buksh 2012 Classic will be held at the Fiji Arts Club in Suva on June 9 and will also serve as selection ground for the national team to the South Pacific and Oceania Championship to be held in November in New Zealand.
