THE Department of Works hosted its inaugural open day in Labasa yesterday to highlight and educate the public on its services.
With more than 200 people present at the Vatunibale depot, the event was also designed to market the joinery and plumbing sections products and services to government agencies and the private sector.
The initiative targets to assess and display our capability as we now work towards reforms for the ministry, divisional engineer works northern Isikeli Raratabu said.
The event is also aligned with the declaration by government through the Ministry for Industry and Trade for the month of April and May as manufacturer month, Mr Raratabu said.
It is the month of promoting Fiji made products.
Mr Raratabu said the event was an opportunity for students to decide on their career.
This is a great opportunity for students who study technical trade to decide their future career because they can either choose the plumbing, mechanical or joinery sections that are available in the department, he said.
We are trying to get people to understand our core functions and to ensure we carry out our tasks to the best of our ability.
The response from the people is tremendous and reflects a positive outcome of our work to contribute to the economy.
Similar events were also organised in the Western and Central divisions.
