MORE than 40 tourists escaped unhurt after the bus they were travelling in caught fire on the Queens Rd last night.
It was the quick action of the bus driver that saw the tourists being quickly moved out of the bus.
The incident happened at Batiri in Sigatoka.
Uday Singh of Semo in Sigatoka said the bus which belonged to Tourist Transport Fiji was completely burnt but luckily all passengers escaped unhurt.
TTF general manager Brad Ruthford confirmed the incident last night.
Mr Ruthford said he would look into the matter once he received the full details.
"I am aware of the accident but the good news is no one was hurt.
"The driver followed the right procedures that saw all the tourists unhurt," said Mr Ruthford.
Mr Singh said he was surprised when he saw the flames on the roof of the bus.
"Luckily the driver stopped the bus right away as all passengers came out of the bus unhurt," he said.
"The bus was engulfed in flames and police and fire officers worked tirelessly to put out the fire," Mr Singh told The Fiji Times last night.
Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro confirmed the incident last night, saying there were 43 passengers on board.
Ms Naisoro said none of the passengers were injured and the bus was at the Sigatoka Police Station for investigations.
