PORT MORESBY - Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare was nominated Wednesday to contest his East Sepik regional seat.
He had told supporters earlier this would be the last time to contest the election before he handed the leadership baton over to young leaders.
Sir Michael arrived at the Boram airport to a rousing welcome by jubilant National Alliance supporters.
Members of the correctional service and East Sepik Governor Peter Wararu were there to receive him.
Sir Michael, who has been an MP since independence, thanked the people for the support they had given him in the past 44 years.
Meanwhile, the Somare camp has warned media organisations that failure to address Sir Michael Somare as PM could be in contempt of court.
