THE Fiji Chess Federation has gone for experience when selecting the national team for the upcoming Chess Olympiad.
Candidate Master (CM) Calvin Prasad, CM Manoj Kumar, CM Sanmogam Goundar and Dr Neel Arora make up the Open Men's team.
Hilda Vukikomoala, Gloria Sukhu, Isabel Nutira and Kabrina Terubea are in the women's team.
FCF president Dr Virgilio de Asa, who is also the head delegate for the team and team captain, revealed to Times Sport that all members named in the men's team have competed in the Chess Olympiad before.
However he maintains the final selection criteria was based on the recent results of the 2012 Fiji International Open Chess Championship.
"The players were selected based on previous performances throughout the year and current playing strength," Dr de Asa said.
"In the Open/men's squad, all four CM Prasad, CM Kumar, CM Goundar and Dr. Arora have played in previous Olympiads.
"The two reserves, Goru Arvind and Taione Sikivou haven't. In the women's team, only Gloria competed in previous Olympiad, Hilda played in two Oceania, Isabel, Kabrina and reserve Amy Bale they haven't played in any Chess Olympiad," he said.
