THE government is against discrimination of any sort.
This was the gist of a statement sent by the Attorney-General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaium in response to the cancellation of the permit for a march on International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia last Thursday.
"The Bainimarama government strongly stands by its policy of non-discrimination. The cancellation of the permit does not in any way reflect a change in its policy."
The statement said the decision by the police was made following the authority's professional assessment.
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said there were measures placed by the government that ensured there was non-discrimination between groups.
"Every Fijian is treated equally under the law".
