INMATES at the Lautoka Corrections Centre received supplies from a visiting US Christian group on Friday.
The group, called Chaplains for Christ, visited the centre to hand over the supplies.
Lautoka Corrections Centre spokesman Semesa Uluiviti said they were fortunate to receive such assistance from the group.
The group gifted inmates Bibles and toiletries.
Mr Uluiviti said the Bibles would help in the spiritual growth of inmates and their overall improvement as a person, so they would be able to become better community members once they leave the corrections centre.
Executive director for Chaplains for Christ, Pastor Rob Brown said the assistance was mainly to assist the inmates and they were there to help the helpless.
"This is a call from God to help the inmates and they are also part of the community," said Pastor Brown.
Pastor Brown said this was the first time for the group to visit Fiji and they planned to assist the corrections centre in the future.
"We will be visiting other corrections centres around the country next week and we are happy to work with the Prison Fellowship in Fiji," he said.
