PORT MORESBY - Papua New Guinea will send 180 participants to showcase its various cultures at the 11th Festival of Pacific Arts to be held in Honiara, Solomon Islands, next month.

The contingent comprises three different provincial cultural groups - from the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, New Ireland and Eastern Highlands.

The provincial groups will display their different cultural dances and practices in the form of artifacts, cooking and performances.

The contingent consists of traditional performing groups, contemporary theatre groups, contemporary performing bands, weavers, painters, sculptors, potters, and tattooists.

The three groups were selected by the National Cultural Centre's festival committee after they met the requirements to participate at the festival.

Officials from NCC will be travelling to the festival to oversee PNG's preparation and participation at the festival.

They will all depart for Honiara on June 29 and return on July 16.

The acting executive director for NCC Ombone Kaiku said the arts festival was an important event for Pacific Island nations.
