COMMISSIONER Western, Commander Joeli Cawaki commended the Ministry of Health for their awareness campaigns and quick action during the March floods.

Commander Cawaki said compared to the flood in January, the March floods had a minimum number of health risks.

"The health teams really learnt from the first flood this year," he said.

"We recorded minimum health cases that arose from floods in the March floods because the Ministry of Health, the Fiji Red Cross and other health organisations acted quickly to make sure water-related diseases were not prevalent in the Western Division."

Commander Cawaki said the awareness programs and workshops conducted by the health teams and integrated teams did Fiji and the Western Division a lot of good.

"It was very well co-ordinated and we are happy to see that lessons are being learnt in the first flood in January and that actions and processes to minimise health risks have improved," he said.
