Families still in need

ABOUT 1200 families in the Western Division are still in dire need of assistance, says the Commissioner Western Commander Joeli Cawaki.

Following the January and March floods, thousands of families in the Western Division have been assisted by the government, church groups and non-government organisations.

"While we have helped thousands of families, there are still so many families that really need support because their only source of income has been destroyed by the floods," said Cdr Cawaki.

He confirmed that 500 families from Lautoka, 200 families from Nadi and 500 families from Nadroga/Navosa need assistance from the government for some time.

"We have helped in cleaning their homes and their farms but they have no source of full employment that can redeem them from the destruction of the flood," Cdr Cawaki said.

"These families will need to be supported for some time before their lives return to normal."

Cdr Cawaki said the figures of families needing assistance was received on Wednesday.
