A GROUP of inmates at the Labasa Corrections Centre yesterday offered a helping hand to members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in Tuatua to clean up their mosque.
Centre supervisor northern Penisoni Tuapati said the initiative was part of their community engagement for the second quarter this year.
"A member of the Jamaat approached us early this week to seek our help in cleaning up their mosque," he said.
"This is a social obligation we have to fulfil because it fosters a good relationship between the inmates and the people in society.
"We have a target to meet and we are aiming for more community engagement work depending on the requests done by the public."
Mr Tuapati said even though it was a voluntary activity, the centre was delighted to offer its helping hand to the community.
Muslim missionary for the Northern Division Naeem Ahmad Iqbal said they were grateful to the centre for their assistance.
