Crushing to commence next month

CRUSHING dates at all three sugar mills in the Western Division have been tentatively announced by the Fiji Sugar Corporation yesterday.

Speaking to The Fiji Times, FSC executive chairman Abdul Khan said crushing dates had been pushed back because of the impact of the floods in January, March and April this year.

"Lautoka and Penang are now scheduled to begin crushing on June 26 while Rarawai in Ba is expected to start on July 10," he said.

In an earlier interview with this newspaper, Mr Khan said he was optimistic of a crush of 1.8 million tonnes despite the widespread devastation caused by the floods.

Also of concern are vital infrastructure that were affected by the recent floods including the Navo and Naviago rail bridges which Mr Khan said would be repaired prior to the start of crush.
