THE Navosa Rugby Union (NRU) Kaicolo Cup competition has reached the semi-finals stage.

Korolaulau, Nasikawa Blues, Natuatuacoko and Korolevu have booked their places in the semi-finals, which will be played this Saturday at Vatureba grounds.

Korolaulau defeated Bolabola 22-3 in the first quarter-finals last Saturday to book a date with Nasikawa Blues in the semis.

The Blues overcame Nasikawa 18-3 while Natuatuacoko scraped past Veilomani with a 7-6 win.

Korolevu, defeated Nabau 19-11, will play Natuatuacoko in the other semis.

NRU president and sponsor Jay Whyte said they were impressed with the level of competition displayed by teams in the quarter-finals.

He said they were expecting a fiery battle in the semis and the final, which was scheduled for May 26.

"Save Rawaca in his man of the match performance for Korolaulau scored two tries, the first was a brilliant chip and chase, dancing along the sideline," Whyte said while reviewing the Korolaulau versus Bolabola match.

Whyte said the Nasikawa Blues (Navola) and Nasikawa match was played in a great spirit because of the relationship between the two sides.

The victorious Nasikawa side is from Navola on the coastal area while their 'tavales' hail from the interior.

Whyte said the match between Natuatuacoko and Veilomani was a real arm wrest with the half time score 7-6 remaining through the full-time whistle.

"A great final game of the day with Korolevu taking the win. It was through some successful conversions of penalties, with Paula Bosewaqa kicking four penalty goals with a one try conversion, giving Korolevu its win and advancing through to the semis against Natuatuacoko," he added.
