NUKU'ALOFA - Tonga's Prime Minister Lord Tu'ivakano will depart Tonga today to attend the 2012 NATO Summit hosted by US President Barack Obama, in Chicago.
The acting Chief Secretary and Secretary to Cabinet Alfred Soakai told Matangi Tonga, the summit will discuss a way forward for Afghanistan during a two day meeting from 20 - 21 May.
He said the high level summit will be attended by Heads of States and Heads of Governments of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO).
Tonga is part of the International Security Assistance Force ISAF in which we currently have our fourth and last Tongan troops to be deployed to Afghanistan under the ISAF mission, he said.
Accompanying the PM are the Commander of the Tonga Defence Services, Brigadier General Tau'aika 'Uta'atu, Lady Robyn Tu'ivakano and Alfred.
ISAF is a NATO led security mission in Afghanistan established by the United Nations Security Council, in December 2001.
