HONIARA - Solomon Islands police have arrested one of their most wanted man, Stanley Gitoa in East Guadalcanal after being on the run since 2007.
Police Commissioner John Lansley has confirmed his arrest to the local media yesterday.
"He was arrested last night following a successful operation in East Guadalcanal. His whereabouts were established by a police investigation team.
"The RSIPF was supported by the Participating Police Force (PPF) and a vehicle was stopped in which Stanley Gitoa and four associates were travelling. They were all arrested by the Police."
Gitoa, who is wanted for tension-related crimes, including murder, had escaped from lawful detention while on a compassionate visit to a sick relative in Tetere, Central Guadalcanal in 2007.
