Construction work to complete the Nabouwalu Hospital rest house will start next month, says the hospital board secretary, Lemeki Qalibau.
Mr Qalibau said the Ministry of Health had informed board members of the completion work to begin next month after securing sponsorship from a corporate company.
He said the vanua of Bua had raised funds in 1998 to build the rest house. "We raised $18,000 but it was not enough to build the rest house and that is why we have turned to the government to ask for their help," he said.
"The rest house is almost completed and we need extra funds to help put together the house that will cater for the people of Bua.
"People of Bua can just come and stay in this rest house instead of travelling from their villages everyday or every week to visit their family member in hospital."
Mr Qalibau said the board members would discuss whether visitors who used the rest house would have to pay a fee.
"We will look at all that because we need to pay for electricity and bills and we will charge very little.
"The rest house is built in the hospital compound and it will be convenient for those staying there to visit their loved ones without facing difficulties associated with travelling to and from villagers," Mr Qalibau said.
