TRADE Unionists in the country expressed their confidence in the hierarchy by re-electing Daniel Urai as president and Felix Anthony as national secretary of the Fiji Trade Unions Congress for the seventh straight term on Saturday.

And for the first time ever a female has entered the top brass of the country's biggest union organisation with the appointment of Teresa Ali to the position of vice president.

Ms Ali joins Jone Raqona and Tomasi Tokalauvere who are the other VPs.

"The workers have spoken and decided that we are the best people to do the job and we will continue to do what we have always done รน and that is to champion and further workers' rights and improve working conditions in this country," said national secretary Felix Anthony after the FTUC's Biennial Conference at the Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi on Saturday.

Mr Anthony said the trade union movement espoused all the virtues that defined the multi-racialism and multiculturalism of the country.

"We take on the role willingly and are committed to ensuring workers get a better deal."
