FIJI'S top amateur golfer Vikrant Chandra is placing his money on teenager Tristan Levestam to win the Fiji Premium Pro-Am Golf Championship in Nadi today.
Chandra, one of the top betts at the event, is not taking part after he was not granted leave to feature in the two-day competition which started yesterday at the Denarau Golf and Racquet Club.
Levestram will be playing on his home course and is a big threat to favourites and defending champion Anuresh Chandra and Olaf Allen Junior, despite the fact he is only 16 years old.
"I definitely wanted to compete at the event but unfortunately I was not given leave from school. Well that is not the end of the road but I am willing to be part of other tournaments in the future," Chandra said.
He said Levestam's performance in previous outing had been outstanding. Chandra said Levestam had more knowledge playing at his home course.
"Tristan is a future star and I want him to win this competition. Even though the battle will be between Anuresh and Olaf Allen Junior, I am betting on Tristan to win this event.
"He is a young golfer, and has shown a lot of potential in his previous outings. He is also playing at home and I believe gives him another boost," he said. The event continues today.
