A MAN facing a sedition charge has submitted an application for variation of bail.

Jagath Karunaratne appeared before Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili yesterday.

The accused and four others have pleaded not guilty to a charge of writing seditious words in public places and billboards, mainly along Nausori and Suva roads.

Defence lawyer Mere Vasiti confirmed serving the prosecution with the documents.

Director of Public Prosecution lawyer Lisiate Fotofili requested that the matter be adjourned to next Friday when he would serve a response.

Ms Vasiti said the prosecution had ample time to respond to the application.

Mr Fotofili said he would object to the bail variation.

Mr Ratuvili gave prosecution until Wednesday to file a response.

He adjourned the matter to next Friday for hearing.
