Training for agri workers

STAFF members of the Department of Agricultural in north are undertaking two weeks of training on farm management.

Principal agricultural officer north John Cox said the program was essential to help increase the knowledge of staff members.

"This training is basically held to upskill our staff so they know what sort of advice or assistance they should give to farmers who approach us for our services," Mr Cox said.

"Farming is like a business and one must have the right management in order to operate it.

"We are trying to fully equip our staff so they deliver an effective service."

Mr Cox said training would also allow staff members to give options to farmers on how they could use their land.

"For example, farmers can plant two crops at the same time in the same piece of land so they don't lose out," he said.

The training at Dreketi in Macuata ends next week.
