POLICE officers in Labasa yesterday engaged in a country patrol as part of efforts to improve their service.
The officers were dispatched to various areas within and outside of the town's jurisdiction.
North media officer police Constable Luke Rawalai said the initiative was part of the force's Key Performance Indicator (KPI) program.
"This is just a one-day program where we assess the performance of officers on their line of work," Constable Rawalai said.
"The officers either walk or travel to various areas within and outside of town and at the same time patrol the streets.
"The long range patrol will keep the officers fit because most of them prefer to walk in pairs than ride in patrol vehicles," he said.
The police will closely monitor the streets of Labasa today as a large turnout is expected at Subrail Park to watch the Macuata and Tailevu Digicel Cup competition match.
