KHEMENDRA Bhartiya School in Savusavu will soon have a new look with help from Australia.

AusAID has given more than $100,000 to the school for the renovation of nine classrooms .

The work will include tiling, roof upgrading, painting and the maintenance of washrooms.

Headteacher Narendra Pratap Singh said they had made several requests for assistance in the past but were fortunate this time to have been offered help by AusAID.

"Students were affected during bad weather because water entered the classroom through leaking roofs," Mr Singh said.

"The facilities were really in bad condition for the 733 students we cater for.

"The donation from AusAID is a relief because now the students will be able to study in a composed and serene environment."

Mr Singh thanked AusAID for the support, saying the school community was grateful for the help.

"I also thank the Education Ministry for guiding us to knock on AusAID door for help," he added.

The maintenance work is expected to be completed in July.
