VATUKOULA coach Senirusi Seruvakula told his men to use possession wisely and play as a team and they did just that in the second half.

The goldminers beat Macuata 24-7 after leading 7-0 at halftime. This was after a run down the right flank that began from a scrum, a chip over the defence and a clean pair of heels by wing Joseva Tuidraki to score.

Senivalati Kenatale kicked the conversion.

The men from the north opted to keep things tight. In the first half their inside backs kept proceedings close to their pack.

Immediately after the break Vatukoula furthered their lead to 12-0 when inside centre, Lepani Raiyala, now playing on the wing to make way for former Naitasiri backiliner Jo Satini, toed through a loose ball, collected and dived over.

Midway through the second spell, Macuata failed to secure and clear the ball after a high kick and from the ensuing move Vatukoula wing Manoa Tarogia went over in the corner. The kick was successful for a 19-0 lead.

Vatukoula did not have it all their way as Macuata, from time to time, went on deep, foraging runs. One such run resulted in number eight, Eremasi Radrodro, going over near the sticks. The try was converted, 19-7.

Late in the game, replacement Saiamone Nadore secured a bonus point for Vatukoula when he went over for their fourth try. Macuata could have been within a point of Vatukoula if they had converted two penalties in the first half.

Vatukoula missed a certain try, when after several phases, had several forwards standing out in the backline. The final pass to the winger was collected by the assistant referee.
