FIFTY primary and secondary schoolteachers attended a four-day workshop on future leaders in Labasa this week.

The teachers from the provinces of Cakaudrove, Bua and Macuata act in high posts in their various schools.

Workshop co-ordinator and senior education officer for Cakaudrove Ponipate Rabaraba said the event was aimed at upskilling the teachers to become good leaders.

"This is the first phase where teachers develop their leadership roles and learn about the changes they will encounter when they lead a school," Mr Rabaraba said.

"Most of the participants are acting in posts such as vice-principals, head teachers, assistant and principals. It is more like an awareness program where we introduce teachers to the real situation on the ground when they become heads of schools."

Mr Rabaraba said the second phase was scheduled to begin in August.

"This is an ongoing program since 2009 and the second phase will begin in August. We are having the same workshop in the other divisions as well and it is really encouraging to note the participants are learning quickly," Mr Rabaraba said.
