Alarm on FEA bills

THE Fiji Electricity Authority has assured consumers who were accidentally charged a large security deposit that appropriate reversals have been undertaken in their electric bills.

This is after the Consumer Council of Fiji raised issues regarding the FEA's calls for customers to pay security deposits despite it operating a flawed payment system.

The council also raised concerns with the FEA's additional security charges after customers complained of seeing continuous bills for security deposits despite paying the sum off.

However, FEA acting chief executive officer Eparama Turaga said there were cases where increased electricity tariffs meant deposits held against the consumer's electricity accounts were no longer sufficient in most cases.
