SIX new deacons were ordained by the Catholic Church of Fiji last Sunday and have now become "part of the priestly family" as Archbishop of Suva, Archbishop Petero Mataca put it during the ordination at Suva's Sacred Heart Cathedral.
The six consist of four Fijians and two Solomon Islanders with both groups having trained for roughly eight years before their ordination ceremony.
The Sacred Heart Cathedral was jam-packed with members of the different congregations where the men served gathered to witness the ceremony.
The group were then hosted to lunch by members of the Lami Catholic community.
