THE Indian High Commission contributed $235,000 to the Fiji National University on Monday to help the university with a trial jaggery making project.

Jaggery is an alternative sweetener made from the same sugarcane juice used to make sugar and there are niche markets for the product in Australia and elsewhere.

Academics from the university as well as staff of the High Commission were on hand to witness the presentation that took place at the India High Commission office in Suva.
