VILLAGERS of Daku on Kia Island in Macuata have access to safe and clean drinking water after the Water Authority of Fiji installed a piping system in the area.
The upgrading works which were completed late last year brought hope to the villagers as water was supplied to each household.
WAF spokesman Maika Nagalu said a team of officials in the Northern Division was deployed to carry out the proposed project last year.
"The villagers formally requested us through the Provincial Development Office in the north and we spent more than $3000 to complete the project," he said.
"They have been without proper water for almost all their lives and they usually depend on rain and water from a well. This is part of our rural water project for the third quarter last year."
The villagers conveyed their gratitude to WAF and said the installation of such piping systems was a relief they longed for a long time.
Mr Nagalu said those who needed their assistance in terms of borehole survey and maintenance could formally request through the Provincial Development Office near them to lodge an application.
"If you need assistance then contact our Provincial Development office," Mr Nagalu said.
