RESIDENTS of a housing area got together yesterday to witness the launch of the area's first crime prevention committee.
The Vunimoli Housing grounds in Labasa was a hive of activity as more than 200 residents took time out to witness the launch of Naodamu Crime Prevention Committee.
With the Police Jazz Band entertaining the crowd, people passing by and motorists were also part of the historic event.
Commissioner Northern Lieutenant Colonel Ilai Moceica applauded the efforts of the residents for taking a strong stand to control criminal activities in their area.
"I applaud the efforts of residents and neighbours for making crime prevention everyone's responsibility in this area," he said.
"The crime prevention cycle begins with us in our own homes because it is where we learn the value of life and also the issues that constitutes criminal activities."
