The people of the Taveuni are excited about making better financial decisions after a team from Westpac Banking Corporation conducted financial literacy workshops around the island.
Westpac's Ana Bakeidaku of "Everywhere Banking" and Marica Sovaki of the Microfinance Unit spent four days travelling around Taveuni delivering Westpac's financial literacy sessions called the Financial First Steps last week. Westpac's Financial First Steps teaches basic budgeting and money management.
"I am very excited to see Westpac in Taveuni and have encouraged all my neighbours and family to come and attend this workshop," Aisea Colati, a Taveuni farmer said.
"There's plenty of money in Taveuni and this workshop is very helpful because it teaches us how to budget our money and save for a rainy day."
The duo visited schools and villages in Lovonivonu, Vuna, Waica, Naqara and Vuniuto.
Westpac has conducted its Financial First Steps workshops across various parts of Fiji to over 3000 people in the last six months.
